Sun Valley Community Church: A Missional Church That Cares For Its Missionaries

Sun Valley Community Church, with three campuses in the Phoenix area, is a church that cares for its missionaries.  Sun Valley raises home grown missionaries and sends them out to engage missionally in strategic ministries.  Some churches are missional but they don’t know how to care for their sent out ones.  Sun Valley CC does.

Sending Church Emphases:  missionary care teams  missions mentoring

What I like about partnering with Sun Valleytheir passion for justice, their desire to care for their missionaries, their commitment to partnership, their availability to be flexible yet strategic

Sun Valley CC is an excellent example of a sending church because they not only raise up their own missionaries but they equip and support them in meaningful ways.  One of their key programs is their Institute for Missions (IFM).  The IFM is a missions mentoring program that prepares missionaries for life on the mission field and tracks with them once they are on the field, helping them to grow in their personal development.

Sun Valley CC establishes care teams that surround each missionary with love and practical support.  Each team has a leader and the team is comprised generally of people who know the missionary.  These care teams walk with the missionary so that he or she is not alone in the cross-cultural journey.

One of Sun Valley CC’s missionaries is Katherine Robinson.  Katherine partners with Homes of Hope in Fiji where they strengthen and restore families in the South Pacific.

I’ve enjoyed watching Sun Valley CC love on Katherine as she loves on women and children in the South Pacific.

Sun Valley CC strives for justice both locally and internationally with their outreach opportunities and their commitment to care for their missionaries is top notch.  I have appreciated their flexibility in situations we have worked on together and they are some of the nicest people on the planet.  I have also worshiped on a Sunday morning at Sun Valley CC and I would love to be a part of that church if I lived in Phoenix.  Praise God for SVCC.
